Joining Showmax to your Access plan will be more cost-effective than getting a premium DStv subscription. The downside of using Showmax along with DStv is that you would require data access to watch movies and shows.

What is DStv Access?
DStv Access is a Pay TV subscription service offered by Multichoice under the DStv subsidiary. The access plan gives a subscriber access to 156 TV networks for 30 days when they make the stipulated payment of R129.
How much is the DStv Access?
Without any add-ons (like the movies add-on or Showmax), DStv Access will cost you R129 per month.
What is DStv access fee?
Don’t be confused: The cost for a DStv Access plan is different from the DStv access fee. The normal DStv Access plan goes for R129 per month while a DStv access fee is the money you pay to make use of DStv XtraView. The DStv Access is a plan on its own, the access fee can be applied to all DStv packages, including DStv Access.
There is another access fee which applies to PVR decoders only. The fee allows you to record and replay old TV shows on your PVR-capable decoder. A PVR access fee can be paid separately and it can also be combined with the XtraView access fee. Everything depends on the setup and the features you’re trying to access.
